NUS launched the Alumni Recognition Programme with the inaugural
NUS Alumni Awards during its NUS Centennial Year in 2005.
These awards that recognise and honour alumni put a human face
to the University’s considerable accomplishments and contributions
in education.
This year's NUS Alumni Awards 2007 is held at The Regent Singapore on 5 July. Three categories of awards were presented to 21 recipients:
• Eminent Alumni Award
– 1 recipient
• Distinguished Alumni Service Award
– 10 recipients
• Outstanding Young Alumni Award
– 10 recipients
Eminent Alumni Award
The Eminent Alumni Award recognises alumni who have
distinguished themselves nationally or internationally for their
excellent and sustained contributions and achievements in public
and community service; in arts, sports, culture or entrepreneurship;
or in a profession or scholarly field.
Distinguished Alumni Service Awards
The Distinguished Alumni Service Award recognises alumni who
have distinguished themselves in rendering excellent and sustained
service to NUS, its predecessor institutions or alumni community.
Outstanding Young Alumni Awards
The Outstanding Young Alumni Award recognises the achievements
and contributions of young alumni, aged 40 and below, who have
distinguished themselves nationally or internationally for their
excellent and sustained contributions and achievements in their
chosen fields, exemplified the best attributes of youth in today’s
world, and rendered excellent and sustained service to NUS or its
alumni community.
The Alumni Awards Statuette
The design consists of a human figure and a globe.
The figure depicts the aspirations of NUS in striving towards global
excellence. The curvatures of the figure are shaped according to
the letters “NUS”. The legs represent “N”, the head is “U” while the
twisting body forms the “S”. This single figure is chosen to reflect
people-orientation within the NUS community and to depict NUS
as One Body.
The globe signifies NUS as a global knowledge enterprise that
transcends boundaries of space and time. The steps from which
the globe and the figure emerge, represent the various stages of
progress that the recipients have achieved and their ascent to sucess
in their chosen fields.
