Professor
Shih Choon Fong, President of NUS, who was in Vancouver in November
2003 to attend a U21 conference, took the opportunity to host a luncheon
for NUS alumni in British Columbia. Also at the luncheon were Associate
Professor Teo Choo Soo, Director of NUS Office of Alumni Relations (OAR),
Professor Liew Ah Choy, Director of NUS International Relations Office,
and His Excellency, Consul General Bernard Baker (an NUS alumnus) and
his wife Susan.
Arthur Yap, the chairman of the NUS Alumni, Vancouver Chapter, organised
the luncheon. Alumni were treated to two video presentations, one on
NUS Centennial Achievements and the other by OAR entitled OARsome Slices.
Prof
Shih enthralled the 40 guests with his favourite analogy of the Atlantic
salmon. He said: “We hope that, just like the steadfast and faithful
Atlantic salmon, you, our alumni, will return to NUS and contribute
to your alma mater, and bring your vitality and your spirit back to
NUS and Singapore by sharing the knowledge and diverse experiences you
have gained over here.”
Everyone enjoyed the lunch as well as the fellowship and bonding, and
is already looking forward to meeting Prof Shih again when he next visits
Vancouver.
