Strengthening Ties with Shanghai

NUS President Professor Shih Choon Fong recently visited Shanghai in August to sign two Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) between NUS and Fudan University. This marks the opening of the third NUS overseas college. Come January 2004, NCS’ (NUS College in Shanghai) pioneer cohort of about 10 students will head for Shanghai to spend a year studying part-time at Fudan while engaging in full-time internships.

While in Shanghai, Prof Shih and the NUS delegation hosted a dinner for more than 30 NUS alumni residing in the city. There were both Chinese nationals and Singaporeans attending the function. Prof Shih was delighted that so many had taken time out from their personal schedules to attend the dinner. Aside from great conversation and excellent company, a full course of exquisite Shanghainese cuisine was served. Everyone enjoyed themselves, and the night saw many new friendships being made. Overall the NUS visit was a tremendous success for the forging of new relationships and the renewing of familiar ones.

NUS alumni in Shanghai take time out for an evening of fellowship.
