The
NUS Alumni Association (Australia) Inc (NUSAAI) was again honoured to
be guests at a dinner hosted by Associate Professor Teo Choo Soo, Director
of the NUS Office of Alumni Relations (OAR), when he visited Sydney
to network and forge closer relations with overseas NUS alumni.
The dinner, held on 21 September 2003, was well attended by NUSAAI
members representing a diverse NUS alumni community. While some dinner
guests ‘competed’ to be the oldest alumnus/alumna at the
dinner, the accolade had to go to Mulan Moroney, a steadfast NUSAAI
member who had travelled several hundred kilometres from Newcastle to
meet Prof Teo and catch up with old friends.
Prof Teo updated the group on the Alumni House project at Kent Ridge
and the launch of the AlumNET website.
Convivial discussions flowed throughout the evening, punctuated by
good-natured ‘ragging’ and nostalgic recall of campus days
gone by. Inspired by the enthusiasm of Prof Teo, NUSAAI members at the
dinner shared information about their informal networking arrangements
for keeping in touch with fellow alumni (such as meeting on the first
Saturday of every year at a pre-agreed place). While OAR and NUSAAI
can provide the structure and forum for alumni networking, ultimately
it is the interest and active participation of alumni that enable ongoing
networking to be viable and fulfilling.
