Hopping Down Under, OAR Director Meets NUSAAI Alumni

NUSAAI members were honoured to be guests at a dinner hosted by Associate Professor Teo Choo Soo, Director of the NUS Office of Alumni Relations (OAR). The visit was undertaken as part of his plans to network and forge closer relations with overseas NUS alumni.

The dinner was held on 15 December 2002 at the Quay Seafood Restaurant which offered spectacular views of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The dinner was well-attended by members of the NUSAAI executive committee and financial members who were very keen to meet Prof Teo and to hear news from Singapore and NUS.

Prof Teo updated us on the current activities and plans of OAR, in particular, the construction of Alumni House at Kent Ridge to provide a special venue and focal point for alumni to return to, gather and network, supported by state-of-the-art facilities and resources. The Alumni House is scheduled for completion in 2005 in readiness for the centennial celebrations of NUS. Meanwhile, alumni are encouraged to use the interim alumni house to be established at the vacated Kent Ridge Communal Hall in the second quarter of 2003.

Prof Teo also spoke about the Student Exchange Programme (SEP) established in partnership with a number of reputable overseas universities to provide students with the opportunity to extend and enrich their education and life experience in another environment.

Discussions over dinner brought back nostalgic memories of NUS campus days, punctuated by cries of delight at the discovery of knowing mutual friends, and were interspersed with engaging exchanges of news and views on common and current topics of interest. It was truly an occasion of alumni networking and relationship building.
