Official Opening of the Alumni Complex and NUSS Dialogue
The Alumni Complex was officially opened by Guest-of Honour Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew on 20 March 2009, heralding a new chapter in strengthening ties between the alumni and the wider NUS community. This was followed by an engaging one-hour dialogue with Minister Mentor on "Singapore and Singaporeans - Quarter century from now".
Comprising the Shaw Foundation Alumni House and the NUS Society (NUSS)'s Kent Ridge Guild House, the Alumni Complex aims to be a special "Home on Campus" where the alumni fraternity can forge new friendships, network, explore opportunities for lifelong learning and build global connections while staying connected with their alma mater.
Speaking at the event, NUS President Prof Tan Chorh Chuan said : “Our aim is to make the Alumni Complex bustle with activity that brings together our alumni, students, faculty and staff; and which adds to the vibrancy of our campus. I hope that Alumni Complex will not just be a place for meaningful interaction, but will also serve as a portal and a bridge between our alumni and the wider NUS community on campus.”
Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew kept his 900-strong audience riveted to his talk which covered economic, social and political issues and how Singapore society will fare in the next 25 years.
