Official Opening of the Alumni Complex by MM Lee Kuan Yew

The Alumni Complex was officially opened by Guest of Honour NUS Eminent Alumnus Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew on 20 March 2009! Comprising the Shaw Foundation Alumni House and the NUS Society (NUSS) Kent Ridge Guild House, the Alumni Complex is a special Home on Campus for all NUS alumni.

Heralding a new chapter in strengthening ties between the alumni and the wider NUS community, the Alumni Complex is THE place for the alumni fraternity to forge new friendships, network, explore opportunities for lifelong learning and build global connections while staying connected with their alma mater.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, NUS President Professor Tan Chorh Chuan said: "Our aim is to make the Alumni Complex bustle with activity that brings together our alumni, students, faculty and staff; and which adds to the vibrancy of our campus. I hope that Alumni Complex will not just be a place for meaningful interaction, but will also serve as a portal and a bridge between our alumni and the wider NUS community on campus."

Indeed, the Alumni Complex on 20 March, a Friday evening, was bustling with some 900 excited guests eager to be a part of history in the making! This included NUS Board of Trustees members, senior administrators, corporate partners, donors, alumni members, students and international guests.

Whilst guests at the NUSS Kent Ridge Guild House mingled over cocktail prior to MM Lee's arrival, guests at the Shaw Foundation Alumni House were treated to a delightful performance by a quartet from the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music. The Official Opening ceremony was held at the Guild Hall of the NUSS Kent Ridge Guild House. It was shown via ?live? cast for guests at the Shaw Foundation Alumni House Auditorium and also at the Guild House function rooms.

After the opening addresses by NUSS President Mr Johnny Tan and Prof Tan, as well as a video presentation on the Alumni Complex, the Alumni Complex was officially opened during a launch ceremony. MM Lee then stayed on for an engaging one-hour NUSS dialogue on "Singapore and Singaporeans - Quarter Century from Now", covering the global economic climate and how the Singapore economy and society will fare in the next 25 years.

After MM Lee took his leave, guests were treated to a scrumptious buffet dinner. As they departed late into the evening, they brought back with them not only delightful Alumni Complex goodie bags but also the knowledge that they were witnesses to a landmark occasion.

The Shaw Foundation Alumni House is for all NUS alumni. Make it THE meeting place when you return to campus. We have lots of exciting events, programmes and reunions in store for you as well as the Alumni Service Centre where you can gather, network and relax with friends. Visit us today!
